The Lineage

What Is Usui Reiki?

Usui Reiki is the original and most widely practised system of Reiki healing in the world. It was developed by Mikao Usui in Japan in the 1920s following a profound spiritual experience on Mount Kurama. Usui codified a method of accessing and directing universal life force energy — ki — for healing purposes.

The system is structured into three degrees. The first and second degrees teach self-healing, hands-on healing, and distance techniques. The Master level — the third degree — includes the master symbol, advanced energy work, and the ability to pass attunements to others. This is the level at which Jahben works.

Reiki does not diagnose or prescribe. It works by creating the optimal energetic conditions for the body's own intelligence to restore balance. Research from institutions including the National Institutes of Health has explored Reiki's role in pain management, anxiety reduction, and quality of life — particularly in palliative and integrative care settings.

It is safe, non-invasive, and complementary to all conventional medical treatment.

Yes. Every session with Jahben is done remotely. At the Master level, Usui Reiki includes powerful distance healing techniques that are not limited by physical space. Distance sessions are conducted at a scheduled time, and many clients report experiences and shifts identical to in-person work. A written post-session summary is included.

What is Animal Reiki and what animals can receive it?

Animal Reiki applies Usui Reiki principles to companion animals including dogs, cats, horses, birds, rabbits, and reptiles. Jahben works with the animal's energy field at a distance, without force or restraint. Animals cannot be influenced by suggestion, making their response to Reiki a genuine reflection of the healing taking place.

Is Reiki safe? Are there any contraindications?
